The joy of rediscovering the fundamental principles of the basic concepts in Pilates by Kay Twiddy

Updated: Mar 24, 2022

Katya Kinski-owner Pilates Academy South Africa

At the start of this year, 2022, Kay Twiddy had the privilege of meeting and attending Katya Kinski’s Pilates Academy South Africa which is based in Cape Town. Kay described her experience as one of “the most amazing courses” that she has ever taken.

“After teaching Pilates full-time for over 20 years, Katya’s vast experience has earned her the reputation of being a superb teacher, who uses her formidable demonstration abilities, sense of humour and motivational techniques to inspire her clients and students”. https://pilatescapetown.com/katya-kinski/

Kay spent six days training with Katya Kinski in her beautiful Pilates studio in Cape Town and completed the Pilates Academy South Africa’s Intermediate Pilates Matwork course.

Katya completed her comprehensive Pilates training in 2002 with the Canadian Stott master trainer and has been a certified Pilates Method Alliance PMA® teacher since 2008. The quality of her ‘Pilates Academy South Africa’ has been recognised and earned accreditation status by the University of Stellenbosch. Katya was also a former professional ballet dancer with the Cape Town City Ballet where she performed principal roles in many productions.

“It was an absolute pleasure to be taught by Katya, she has a wealth of knowledge that she so willingly passed on to us, her eager students. We fine-tuned our posture analysis, discussed how to modify exercises to specific posture types, and perfected our breathing technique. We loved every minute of her interaction with us,” enthuses Kay.

Kay has been taking our Pilates classes at Centenary Medical Centre and online for the last three years. She is pleased to report on the progress that she has seen over this time. “I am delighted with the progress and strengthening I am already seeing as we start to implement some of the new work. The control and concentration has been tough but there are some wonderful improvements from all our participants. Thank you for your hard work and persistence even on the tough days.”
