As I pause to reflect on the 22 years since opening the doors of my two practices in Hillcrest, I am overwhelmed with gratitude and emotion. My practice is moving and up grading to Meyrickton Park, a vibrant medical hub of a variety of medical practices, at the beginning of August. This new milestone has filled me with such fond memories. Many of you have walked this journey with me from the very beginning, when I was a young physiotherapist with a toddler on my hip and a small child by my side, full of hope, energy, and nerves.
Through the seasons of life - times of joy and celebration, and others of challenge and quiet resilience - you have been part of this place we’ve built together. Your loyalty and kindness, when my daughter had leukaemia touched my heart. Your belief in what we do has shaped not just this practice, but me as a person.
Together we’ve shared much more than treatments and appointments. We’ve witnessed the growth of young physiotherapists taking their first steps into the profession, many of whom you welcomed with grace and encouragement. We’ve held space for healing, recovery, and sometimes simply for being heard.
There have been moments that lifted us all:
The unforgettable event when the Amazon Attack Survivor shared his story of strength and survival to a packed-out audience in our practice.
The fun years when an annual Pilates' prize giving was held, complete with a special guest, including a few celebrities.
The proud years when our Practice was honoured with the national accreditation award by the South African Society of Physiotherapy (SASP) a testament to dedication, innovation, and community. My practice was the first to achieve a national award in Hillcrest.
The heartwarming fundraisers for the Reach for a Dream Foundation, where we stood together to bring hope to children with life threatening illnesses .
And the day we opened our space to raise awareness of the deaf community, offering sign language training that connected us in new, powerful ways.
You, our patients and extended family, have been part of it all. You’ve trusted us with your stories, your health, your families, and your journeys. That trust has never been taken lightly.
As we enter a new chapter, I hold onto the deep sense of purpose that has carried us all these years. My heart is full of gratitude for your support, your belief, and your presence through it all.
Thank you for being part of this extraordinary journey.
With all my heart,
Debbie Cameron
